Highlights of My Learning One main learning highlight from HDF 492 would be the newfound self-dependence. As seniors, we were entrusted to take responsibility on our own to make sure that every piece of evidence that was required to be processed before our time as undergraduates has ended. Once we are "in the real world," we truly are responsible for ourselves. As always, the Leadership Minor has found a way to make its graduating students even more prepared for the journey ahead. Another learning highlight was the last chance to bond with a truly amazing group of individuals. Even though it is a relatively small, intimate group of graduates this year, having the ability to learn more about those I wasn't familiar with was and experience unto its own. I was so inspired when I heard my fellow classmates present their portfolios to our class, and again at our portfolio presentation ceremony. |
My Outcome Reflection As time consuming and in depth completing my inventory was, it truly is a blessing to have it. There is no This inventory is a physical manifestation of my set of knowledge that I have garnered as a student within the Leadership Studies Minor. The most amazing part about the inventory is as I read through my entries from freshman year up through the present, I can see myself maturing. Not only as a writer, but as a leader. My freshman year, my outcomes were enthusiastic and appreciative of my new experiences. My most recent outcomes are more reflective and professional. I would have to say that I subscribe most to Wilson's Model, shown below. I believe that self-development is a constant process and there is nothing that I enjoy more than sharing my knowledge and my passions with others as their leader. However, I acknowledge and appreciate the fact that one must be confident in oneself and know how to lead oneself before they expect to lead others. ![]() |
My Learning Process I have always learned best outside of a classroom. Experiential learning, in my opinion, has the best results, the best impact on a student, and truly makes the learning experience a gratifying and enjoyable one. Every experience I have had as a leader has taught me more about others and about myself. What is even more beneficial is the "full circle" learning experiences. I came into the University of Rhode Island as a student at the Leadership Institute. Here, I experienced my first boundary breaking activities, analyzed my first leadership theories, and learned about FLITE. This course was my introduction to the Leadership Minor and it set the tone for my career as a Leadership student. When I returned as a FLITE peer mentor, it was a fantastic reflection-filled experience where I got to reflect on how I've grown since I was a freshman myself. |
