A little introduction...
My name is Brianna Valenti and I am a graduating senior at the University of Rhode Island. I major in Fisheries Science and Leadership Studies minor. I always believe that you get what you put in, and this was how I lived my life at URI. I began by attending the Leadership Institute, then joined Student Senate, Alpha Phi Sorority, and then furthered myself with mentoring through URI 101, FLITE, and Orientation. However, I have never learned as much about myself as I did being apart of the Leadership Minor. Important experiences... Over the last few years, I have been blessed to have been able to take part in the opportunities I did. URI offers so many different fantastic opportunities to get involved on campus and to express oneself as a leader and to grow. Luckily, as mentioned before, I took advantage of quite a few. My junior year, I studied abroad through SEA Semester and experienced the most challenging and rewarding experience of my life. Living out on a boat at sea for six weeks, sailing together as a crew of only 29, is something I will never forget. I gained scientific knowledge as my partners and I developed a research project, proposed it, executed it at sea, and then presented it. I gained trust in myself as an independent leader. This course, HDF 495 will contain an incredibly important experience as well - the Senior Expedition. Going white water rafting has been something that I have been looking forward to since my orientation, when I went to the Leadership focus group and the leaders told us of all of the wonderful parts of the leadership minor. If I know the Leadership Minor, this will be another unforgettable experience that will teach me more about myself and allow me to learn more about my fellow Minors as well. |
